How powerful is $82,794.28?
If I had that much money in my savings account, I’m pretty sure I’d feel kind of powerful. I might start thinking about putting a deposit on an apartment, or consider a much needed update to my wardrobe. Heck, I might even give a little to charity, or shout my mum a well deserved holiday. I would have the power to change my life, and the lives of others. That’s what $82,794.28 dollars could do.
The reason I ask is because it’s how much I have in my superannuation account.
And while I can’t use it to buy an apartment, update my wardrobe, give it to charity, or fly my mum to Fiji, that $82,794.28, as I’ve come to realise, is far more powerful than what I ever used to imagine. In fact, it is one of the most powerful tools in my life, that I can control, that I can use to make change. But to learn how to wield that tool, I first have to change my attitude about super, and my attitude about money.
Disrupt your money-tude
The problem is most of us, due to our emotional confusion with money, take a passive or reactionary attitude towards our cash stash. However an enlightened few, of which you can be one, have realised money is actually a tool. That money itself is neither good or bad, but that it’s what you do with your money that counts. Money, when used correctly, can set us and the world on the path to financial freedom.
It all starts with aligning how you use your money with what you believe and hope for.
At Zuper you can use your super to power support companies in the world that are actively trying to make our cities and communities a better place to live - not only by what they do, but by what they stand for.
For example, if you believe women have the right to earn an income and be financially independent, you might put some of your super into First Solar. Not only has the renewable energy company’s share price doubled over the past year, but they also help rural women in India learn how to sew, so they can increase their employability. Win - win.
Or what about luxury online fashion brand Net-A-Porter, who boldly announced in mid-2017 they would no long sell real fur on their e-commerce platforms, as a powerful statement to the fashion industry that furs time was up. Not only have multiple brands and magazines since followed suit, but in the past year, Net-A-Porter’s share price has nearly doubled.
Take back the power
I truly believe I can be powerful with my $82,794.28. But what really inspires me is that collectively, we could be super powerful with all the money we have in our super, if we all thought this way. Our super is an active force for good, helping support companies like First Solar, Net-A-Porter and many more, push boundaries and fight for what they believe in. That’s powerful. That’s using money as a tool in a way that changes lives.
So will you continue to be passive or reactive about your money and your super? Or will you join us, at Zuper, and put your power to work? We certainly hope it’s the latter, and we’d love to have you on board when we launch. Because super is a serious decision, we’d always encourage you to read our PDS before you switch, so you’re fully informed. This will be available soon on our website.
